Rain Gutter Installation in Austin: Process, Materials & What to Expect
Austin gets its rain in bursts — long dry stretches, then two inches in an afternoon. A rain gutter system that can't move that much water fast ends up dumping it against your foundation. Here's how professional rain gutter installation actually works and what to look for.
Seamless vs. sectional rain gutters
Sectional gutters from a big-box store snap together in pieces, and every seam is a future leak. Seamless gutters are roll-formed on-site from a continuous coil, cut to the exact length of each run — no mid-run seams, fewer clogs, cleaner look. Nearly every gutter installation we do in Austin is seamless for that reason.
Materials that hold up in Central Texas
Aluminum — the workhorse. Light, rust-proof, dozens of colors, best value for most Austin homes.
Galvalume / galvanized steel — stronger profile, pairs well with standing seam metal roofs common in the Hill Country.
Copper — premium look, decades of life, usually paired with half-round profiles on custom homes.
What a proper install includes
Correct sizing comes first: 6-inch gutters and oversized downspouts for steep or large roofs, 5-inch for most single-story homes. Then slope — roughly a quarter inch of fall per 10 feet toward each downspout — hidden hangers screwed into the fascia (not spiked), sealed end caps and miters, and downspouts placed to discharge away from the slab. Austin's clay soil swells and shifts with moisture, so keeping water off the foundation is the whole job.
How long it takes
Most homes are measured, fabricated, and installed in a single day. We fabricate on-site, so the gutter fits your roofline exactly — no pre-cut lengths, no patchwork.
